It is funny how history repeats itself. Sometimes, history repeats by chance and other times it repeats on purpose. Most people do not realize that Julianne and I were married on the same day as Julianne's parents. It was their 28th wedding anniversary when we married in 2002. Just like the saying goes, "something old and something new." Well, we had a few things that were old in our wedding that had a lot of meaning. The silver cake cutter, used at Julianne's parents' wedding, had Julianne's parents' names and wedding date engraved on it and when we got married our names and wedding date was added to the other side. That tradition of passing things on to our children continues on with our child.

Benjamin was born at Northside Hospital in 2009. It was over 35 years ago, that I was born at Northside Hospital. When I was born, my mom was a school teacher and my dad a consultant. Benjamin was born to a mother who is a teacher and a father who is consultant. Within the first week of my life, I had a picture taken of me with a special blanket.

Here is the picture of me over 35 years ago. I was wrapped in a blanket that my grandmother made for me.

My son, during his first week of life had this same blanket given to him. In this picture you can see that he is already feeling the warmth of a strong family with lots of love.

When my mom gave me the blanket for Benjamin, she included these two pictures of my Grandmother (I called my Grandmother Gram) holding me.

It was only right to show Benjamin how much he is loved by taking a picture just like my Gram had with me but with him and his grandmother (who thinks she wants to be called Gigi) holding him. I hope can can see this years from now, when he is having kids of his own and know how much his family loves him.

A cherished family tradition continued, as Julianne received 2 lovely flower arrangements, in a shoe and a face vase, which were sent to her grandmother, in 1953, upon the birth of Julianne's mother. They were again delivered in 1980, upon the birth of Julianne, as a gift from her grandmother to her mother. Also delivered, at that time, 2 baby she vases, filled with beautiful flowers, from friends. Years later, with the birth of Benji, in 2009, all 4 vases, each labeled and adorned with a gorgeous assortment of flowers, arrived to provide very special heirlooms, to celebrate the birth of Benjamin. Our wish is that they will be passed down to future generations.
